If you have spent years building LinkedIn connections, there may already be potential customers, introducers and past conversations sitting inside the network. Reactivation removes the need to win a new connection before starting a conversation.
When existing connections make sense
Existing-network outreach can be particularly useful when you have thousands of relevant connections, your proposition has changed, you have never systematically followed up, or people may know you without understanding what you currently offer.
When new prospecting is needed
New prospecting becomes important when your existing network is too small, poorly matched to the current offer or concentrated in the wrong market. It also lets you deliberately build a network around the customers you want next.
Often the answer is both
A sensible strategy can learn from existing connections while steadily building a better future audience. The right mix depends on the quality of the network and the commercial objective.
Audit the network before choosing a campaign
Start by checking a sample of your existing connections against your current ideal customer: their roles, sectors, locations and whether there is any prior conversation. A large network is useful only if enough of those people are relevant. Separate possible buyers from referral partners and people who are unlikely to need the service.
If the network fits, start with a small, clearly defined segment. Write an opening that acknowledges the existing connection without pretending you have spoken before. For example, a message might briefly explain a change in your service and ask whether that area is relevant to their work. Review replies before expanding the campaign.
Decide using the commercial objective
If you want to reopen conversations quickly, existing connections are a sensible first test. If you need to reach a new sector, location or seniority level, build a fresh prospect list. When both audiences matter, keep them in separate campaigns: an existing connection should receive a different opening from someone you have never met.
The measure is not how many messages leave the account. Track relevant replies, qualified conversations and opportunities passed to sales. Our five-stage process explains how those conversations are managed; the Connect package is the existing-network starting point.
