Being connected only creates access. The commercial value comes from relevance, timing and conversation.
Give the conversation a reason to exist
Outreach works better when it is tied to something meaningful about the prospect: their role, company, challenge, market or a clear reason your offer could be useful.
Do not force the sale too early
Many opportunities are lost because the message jumps from hello to a meeting request with no context. A short exchange can establish whether there is genuine interest before asking for a larger commitment.
Recognise intent
Questions about service, timing, pricing, problems or next steps can indicate stronger intent. That is when the conversation deserves prioritising and may be ready for your follow-up.
Keep context at handover
A useful handover tells you who the person is, what has been discussed and why they appear interested. That lets you continue the conversation rather than restart it.
Use a simple progression
First, decide which connections match your current offer. Next, open a conversation about something relevant to their role rather than sending a brochure. If they reply, answer the point they raised before suggesting a meeting. If there is no response, one thoughtful follow-up may be appropriate; repeating the same request rarely helps.
For example, a facilities supplier speaking to a property manager could ask whether a particular category of building maintenance falls within their remit. If it does, a follow-up can explain the service area and ask whether a conversation would be useful. This example illustrates a relevant question; it is not a script to send unchanged to everyone.
Know when to hand over
A clear handover contains the prospect's role and company, the reason they were approached, the exact point of interest, any timing they mentioned and the agreed next step. The person taking the sales call should be able to pick up the conversation without asking the prospect to repeat themselves.
Measure qualified discussions and subsequent sales activity separately from total replies. If you want to understand the targeting step, read when to start with your existing network; for the full workflow, see how LeadLynkr works.
